Tami Lang
Watson Park (Main St)

I'm Tami Lang, a native Floridian. I’ve been teaching art for 30 years, K-12. For this artwork, I wanted to show how this lovely community garden glorifies God, based on the Bible verse Hosea 10:12. “Sow righteousness for yourselves, reap the fruit of unfailing love, and break up your unplowed ground; for it is time to seek the Lord, until he comes and showers his righteousness on you.”

The sides of the heart show the contrast between the “earthly” (sowing), begun with a dark gray ground, and the “heavenly” (reaping), painted with a bright yellow ground.

Sowing the pure white seeds of righteousness is difficult in rocky soil.  Even the young seedlings of goodness can be destroyed.  However, with the guidance of the Holy Spirit (symbolized by the inverted “hand of God” positioned garden glove), the seeds can remain firmly planted.   Reaping heaven-bound souls is shown through the basket of washed and unblemished fruit.  Tying the two sides together is a wooden criss-crossed edge…viewed as garden fencing on one side and a basket on the other… the cross of Christ.

As you explore this artwork, please know that I have prayed for you. May this community garden be a blessing for generations to come; growing love for God and thy neighbor.
